If you want people to keep paying a subscription fee for your service, you absolutely need to provide a great experience from end to end. Roland just doesn't care enough about making software that's actually good. But like any other software, they need to be built to at least a certain minimum standard of quality. It now seems barbaric to go around checking every plugin maker's website to see if there are new versions and manually downloading and installing them. But they're actively working on it and making it better.įor the record, I like plugin managers. In third place, after Arturia, is Softube Central, which is pretty, but has had some reliability issues interfacing with iLok (which can cause major headaches), and takes too long to re-check all your installations and activations every time you launch it. Arturia seems to have modeled their recent redesign after NI's Native Access, which is by far the best of all the plugin managers I've used. They did a bunch of weird, custom UI, and a lot of it isn't great, but the app is built WAY better than Roland's $hitty-webpage-in-a-window.
